This course is designed to explain marijuana’s effects on the developing brain. Topics include how THC works in the brain and the short- and long-term effects of marijuana use on the developing brain. After completing this course, you should be able to explain how marijuana works in the brain as well as the impacts youth marijuana use has on cognition, mental health, and memory. This course should help youth make informed decisions regarding marijuana use during adolescence.
In this course, you will explore the inner workings of the brain—how it functions and develops normally, as well as how it operates while under the influence of THC. You will gain a clear picture of the effect of adolescent marijuana use on brain development, why marijuana use as an adolescent can alter brain functioning and development, and what are the long-term impacts on the brain. Through understanding the differences between the young, developing brain and the fully developed adult brain, along with a deeper understanding of the short- and longer-term effects of youth marijuana use, you will be better equipped to make more informed decisions about using marijuana as a youth.
